It's really nice that baconfest is 21+. I wish every public place was 21+

  • That would have made MV experience much different

  • I wish America, like every other civilized nation in the world, grew some balls and stopped treating its 18-21 year-olds as some piece of uncivilized shit. (It turns out people are really good at following the standard you set for them -- by setting the standard for one specific activity to an age inconsistent with the other standards you create a special class which is fueled by rebellion, anger, and resentment)

  • I agree. But I was speaking more toward the nice lack of children, strollers, etc at the fest. 18+ would've been just as well.

  • hahahahah (sorry, the rebellion, anger, and resentment got the best of me again)

  • Brett, a fair percentage of 18-21 year olds, and 18-29 year olds also quite frequently, are pieces of uncivilized shit.

  • ...or maybe, just maybe, they're merely filling the role those superior to them have defined for them. adolescence and young adulthood has never lasted as long as it does now

  • I prefer the term "relegated them to", if you please.

  • Fair enough. My point remains. People as a whole have a nasty tendency to be just as mature as you expect them to be. Expect and reward maturity and maturity will follow.

  • To paraphrase Heinlein, Young men should be shut into a barrel and fed through the bung-hole until they reach the age of thirty. At that point, one can make the decision about whether to let them out or permanently drive in the bung.

    Christian Renaud posted

  • Heh. You said bung hole. (Also ... I am 32)

    Derek Brooks posted

  • Yes, we let you out on account of good behavior. We likely wont decide the same in Neese's case.

  • To quote Jefferson: "The reflections that the boys of this age are to be the men of the next; that they should be prepared to receive the holy charge which we are cherishing to deliver over to them; that in establishing an institution of wisdom for them, we secure it to all our future generations; that in fulfilling this duty, we bring home to our own bosoms the sweet consolation of seeing our sons rising under a luminous tuition, to destinies of high promise; these are considerations which will occur to all."

  • Jefferson had lots of time for deep ruminations like this while the day to day work was done by his six hundred slaves.

  • irrelevant ad hominems are always fun!

  • in any case. We're missing the point. Crying babies and strollers are annoying.

  • Spoken like a non-breeder.
