Cornerstone 2004 - finished

rule. ok, so Cornerstone is done, and I am happy. I got to see a couple more shows since my post yesterday. And now that I have all my pictures consolidated. I changed the pictures of Zach and I.

Saturday I saw...
-Further Seems Forever - They're sort of pop rock, but not good. I mean, the band had some talent and sounded decent, but their lead singer (who I guess is new) sucked. There was this dude standing by us that sang way better than him. It was funny. But the lady in front of him didn't like him (note picture).
-Blindside - Man, I really love Blindside. Christian Lindskog rules so much. It was sad that he had a corded mic because he couldn't come all the way out to the end of the cat walk (where Zach and I were …

Cornerstone Thus Far

So I'm halfway through Cornerstone. So much fun. My only complaint is that there aren't as many people here this year. It's only Zach, Amy, and I at our camp site. I wish Aaron, Jordan, Gregg, Kevi, and Kyle Pitman would have come. Besides that, I've had quite a bit of fun and seen a lot of shows. I've stopped by quite a few of the small random hardcore stages that kids setup at their camp sites, good stuff.

Anyway, Thursday we saw...
-Slow Coming Day - Which is Cullen's brother's band. I like their music, it was nice to see Orion play. Indie Rock, yeah.
-Kutless - They had a lot of trouble picking a style... Creed, Rapcore, Hardcore, etc.
-Reliant K - Really good. I hadn't heard them before, but I liked the show.

Kill Hannah AND H.I.M.

Kill Hannah and HIM are touring together, which rules so much. I want to go to one the shows soooo bad. Kari and I can get plane tickets pretty easily, so we were even considering flying to NY, LA, or even Philadelphia to see them together.

But every stop on the tour is on a bad date. I'm either doing demos, working, or going to weddings. The closest that they're going to be is Chicago... which is still a 5 hour drive. It's on a Sunday night... the same Sunday that I have a Soap shoe demo in Iowa City. I also have only 1 more vacation day.

Stupid stupid Iowa. Why can't Des Moines be bigger.... or even Omaha, or Minneapolis.

Tesla Concert

Kevin got some tickets to go to the Tesla show in Des Moines tonight. However, the person he was going with sold out, so I decided that I'd go to the concert with him. ...Holy 80s.

Everyone there was seriously stuck in the 80s (MAYBE early 90s). Kevin and I were within the youngest 3% there. The only people younger than us were there with their parents, haha.

Here are a few things to note about the night: big hair, mullets, nascar hats, fist pumping, bangs, receding hairlines, air guitar, dude with stomach hanging out of shirt, shoulderless pink shirts with fishnet tights, etc.

however, one guy seriously "LOVES my show." he told me, haha. I'M NOT BAM!

one more thing to note, Amy Smart has now taken the lead as my biggest …

The Green Room

Last night after work, I drove to Mount Vernon (2 hour drive) to meet Kari and Steph. Then we drove to the Green Room in Iowa City to see Heiruspecs and my friend Luke (aka know1, aka aeon gray) perform.

Anyway, Luke was performing with Angle and DJ Wickedawesome (a friend of theirs). Man, it was the best soft focus show I've seen. I've only seen like 3 before then... but still. It was the DJ's first live performance, but he sounded really good. Luke and Angle also sound incredibly good together.

After that Animosity went on, who was good. It sorta matched some of the psychopathic records style music that I listen to, but his set was a little to long. Especially for an opener. Right after him there was this DJ that was …

Valentine's Day, Soft Focus, Heiruspecs, etc

So this weekend marked the day that every girl in the world looks forward to, my Grandma's Birthday... also known as Valentine's day. Kari and I spent the day in town, I bought a $300 toolbox, ha. Kari also bought me a diagonal striped shirt from express for men, haha, I am metro now. Later, we went to Hy-Vee and picked out a bunch of stuff to make dinner at my APT. We don't normally cook, so we thought it'd be fun to try to cook, which it was. We made some awesome mushroom appetizers, shrimp, lobster, lemon peppered salmon, pasta, etc... we rule.

Sunday night there was a hip hop show with my friends from soft focus at vaudeville mews. Luke (know1) asked me to shoot video for them, so Kari and I went and met cedric there. The …

Mindless Self Indulgence

I went to the MSI concert tonight with Cullen, Kevin, and Jenny (a girl from Cornell). It was awesome.

The show started off with a weird bluegrass/metal band from Brooklyn, NY called unkle ****er(but the violinist is hot). Then Tub Ring came on, a punk/metal band from Chicago, who was really really good... I wish I woulda bought one of their CDs. Shortly after, Mindless Self Indulgence came out....

Jimmy Urine is nuts and puts on a great show. Lyn Z is so hot. I wish she would live with me. Kitty is also above average and can definitely rock the drums. Steve Righ puked on stage for some reason.

So, Mindless Self Indulgence puts on an awesome show. We made it up to the front as always. Urine was standing on the railing right in …

Detroit / Halloween / Harper

This weekend I went to Detroit with Kevin, Ben Stockwell, Richie, and his friend Adam. ...Man, that city is ghetto, but also fun.

Thursday around 4 I drove to Mt Vernon to meet Kevin, then we drove to Richie's house to pick them up, then up to Detroit. After a lot of driving, we arrived at our hotel on 14 mile around 5 AM. We slept for 5 hours and then woke up to go sight seeing. While we were out we saw a lot of things referenced by ICP and other people under Psychopathic records. Here are some cool things we saw:
-The ghetto block that Violent J grew up on
-Old school ICP Graffiti
-Hot Hits (The record store that Alex Abbiss owns)
-Zug Island
-Burnt down houses
-Lots of other streets and places that get rapped about.

Later, …
