The 30 Year Old DJ

I'm 30 years old, love music, and am about to become the sickest DJ my bedroom has ever seen.

But first, let me give you a a bit of a backstory...

In the late 90s (high school, for me) I found house music. I had mostly been listening to terrible metal and rap at the time… but once I heard those crazy electro sounds, I started to become super interested. I even started going to some under-18 dance clubs in the Quad Cities.

As soon as I heard a DJ mixing these crazy electro tracks on ridiculous house systems I fell in love. I still remember that first club pretty vividly… Not only was I blown away by what I was hearing, I was also blown away by what I was seeing. There was an entire room of people just raging out, crazy raver kids, etc. It …

My iPod Rating Dilemma

I'm a big fan of rating music so that I have playlists of things that do not suck. However, I've come to a dilemma. What happens when a song is so horrible that it's amazing? I mean, I want to know that it's horrible, but I also want to know that I love it.

For example, Ill Mitch is this Russian Rapper - who may or may not be real and/or serious. He's definitely not the most talented rapper - in fact he's quite the opposite... but I really love it, haha. Do I rate his stuff high or low? And what if he has a song that's just amazing good? So now I have 1 for real 5 star song by Ill Mitch. Then all the others that are so bad they're good I've rated a 4 star? This is confusing. The same goes if he has a song that is so bad it's …

Streaming Music Throughout My House

So, I apparently let my home network go to crap in the last few years, which is not conducive to my current project - to setup a virtual "whole house stereo system."

See, I have this stereo in my loft with some strategically placed speakers. These speakers use my vaulted ceiling to bounce music all over the top 2 floors. Plus it's all controlled via itunes on my primary computer. I love it, love it... which is why you'll always hear music playing in our house.

The only problem with this setup is that I can't hear the music when I'm in the basement. So usually I just throw in a CD or something, but it sucks to have different things playing in different parts of the house.

So here is what I need...
1. I need a way to get music …

Grahm Geigle

So a couple weeks ago I saw on my sister's AIM profile that she had a link to one of her friends' journals. I checked it out, it was a kid from our hometown that was friends with my sister.

He got in a super bad car accident on Dec 30th and has been mostly unconscious in the hospital until about 3 days ago. I read the entire Journal which his family has been upkeeping and felt like a part of it. After all, any friend of a friend is a friend of mine. (crap, that sounds so much more cheesey than I want it to... but anyway, I felt I should help if I could).

I won't do the amount of pain that he and his family have gone through any justice, but.... Grahm's got a heavily fractured hip, has had some surgeries, has been on …

ICP sucks.

For some reason I'm in a rowdy/ranting mood today.

I really think it's funny when people give me crap for listening to the insane clown posse (icp). They get all worked up about a group I listen to? haha, wtf. It's funny because most of the people that diss them have probably heard 3 of their songs, and they were probably songs from 7 years ago. And it's not like I make all the "dissers" listen to it... though maybe I should, ha.

Ok, show me a band that satisfies the following:
-Doesn't want to get played on the radio (and hasn't).
-Doesn't want to get played on Mtv (and hasn't).
-Has over a million fans.
-Has five gold albums.
-Has two platinum.
-Put out 20+ CDs (50+ including singles and mixes).
-Started a record label.

Big Brown Titties in the Viper Convoy at the Motor Inn

It's 8:00 AM and today is already good. I checked my mail this morning and had the Iggy Pop & Peaches - Motor Inn vinyl. Felix has this really really good mix on it. Very hard hitting - good club music. I've been looking for the record for a long friggin time. Nobody could order it, no websites had it... apparently it was just a promo or something. But Vinyl Exchange in the UK hooked it up, w00t!

Also I drove next to this decked out RT-10 today on the way to work. Looked sooo good. I pass by someone with a viper about once a week on the way to work. There are way to many rich pricks in this area... and I wish I was one of them, hehe. (I heart cars)

It's also fun to work next to camp dodge. The Army convoys rule. H1s, giant …

Music: From Jazz to Underground Psycho Rap

I've been hearing some pretty good music lately and I thought I'd tell you about it. Normally I don't do this, but you won't hear any of it otherwise because it's all way underground.

First off, I went to a place called Java Joes on Saturday night. They had 2 bands playing, Kite Strings and Cleo's Apartment, which were both very good. Kite Strings was a mix between Acid Jazz, Hip Hop, and techno. They had a violin, turntables, drum machine, keyboard, and every once in a while a guy rapping. Cleo's Apartment combined Keyboards, synthesizers, turntables, and even horns. They're both pretty mellow but really good. Search for them on mp3.com or check out softfocus.com. The site isn't up yet, but when I talked to them they said it'd …

The Wraith: Shangri-La

Now, many of you know that I've listened to ICP for years (about 7 to be exact). For those of you that don't know what ICP is, this article should mean nothing to you, just skip ahead and read about how cool my pockets are. However, if you know anything about ICP at all, anything... read further.

ICP has always been known for being wicked and rapping about things that no artist really talks about. Their music talks about some pretty messed up stuff, but there is something behind it. ICP doesn't go out and kill people, they don't want to go out and kill people. In fact, I laugh at at least 1 lyric in every single one of their songs! They're clowns, they're supposed to be funny!

Anyway, they just released their 6th jokers card (or …

jill - "what did you guys do for lunch?
kevin - "chickety china the chinese chicken, grab a drum stick and your brain starts tickin"
jill - "we dont have drum sticks here, do we?"

Answering machine beats

I'm gonna make a lot of songs out of various answering machine messages that I've gotten. Once everything is settled with broox.com then I will start uploading them in real audio format.

I'm gonna place beats behind cool answering machine messages and scratch the voices... I've got 1 done... should be cool.

Mac 10

"Why did you ask me if I listened to mac 10? Is that some kind of lesbian music or something?"
-jill geerlings-schmidt

hehe, I love this lady.
