There's a lot of good people in this business but ultimately their upside is selling you their instruments (mutual funds or as Clint points out life insurance). No one works of off pure fees except for the very wealthy. Having said that there's a guy I know who will create a financial plan for you for $400 hoping to rope you into his funds later but you can end it at $400. Also People seems to like betterment quite a bit and it has low expense ratios.
