Paintballing with Sushi and Steak

Being broke is suddenly "alright" when Kari's parents come to visit, ha. We always eat well, make beer, watch movies, etc. Seriously, Friday, we went to Taki like I've never been to Taki before. We got so much food... edamame, squid salad, soup, tons of specialty rolls, lots of nigiri, and I have never seen anyone else do this, but we got dessert at Taki. Not 1, but 2 desserts. Plus Sapporo, Saketinis, and a couple free shots from the sushi bar - it's hard to turn those down. Later we watched movies and tried one of the weirdest beers ever.

Saturday we shopped a lot. We got beer supplies, another carboy at the Homebrew shop (to double the size of the homebrewery). Kari got lots of clothes and Jeff got lots of Apple stuff at Jordan Creek.

Lunch was pretty funny. I saw Kevi ordering food so I ran up and slapped his backside as hard as I possibly could - it hurt. I also saw my most serious ex-gf. While we were eating, I looked up and saw her sitting 10 feet diagonally from me. So I did what every mature man would do and immediately looked away, haha. I am such a dork. I didn't look long enough to see who she was with or anything, I'd be sad if it was her family because then it might have been nice to say hi. The rest of the day I was on high-alert walking around the mall like a hawk trying to make sure I didn't run into her. wtf? Kari made fun of me a lot.

Later we ate at Greenbriar - excellent food. Then we went home and made 10 gallons of beer, haha. That is a LOT of beer. 5 gallons of a dark beer and 5 gallons of wheat.

And what's up with the weather lately? Seriously, motorcycles driving around in January? Sunday I washed my car outside and played paintball with Zach, Kevi, and Anthony. Winter should start soon. I'm almost ready for it to be over now... however I really need to snowboard at least once.
its weird that you saw your ex-gf on saturday...i was at huhot that night, and saw one of my good friends from high school/college, that i haven't talked to since he decided to not be that good of a friend anymore...i did the mature thing too, and totally ducked and hid behind people...i was on edge the rest of the night at huhot, trying to avoid the awkward conversation

I looked at takisteakhouse.com/menu.htm and to me it seems backwards.

Your sushi is more expensive, less variety, and probably not nearly as fresh as the west coast. Man, that sucks. At least you guys got the awesome.. oh wait.. nothing is awesome about Iowa ;-)

Seriously.. everything on there is (at least) double than some of the best sushi places in both San Diego and San Francisco.

i had sushi in LA and it was no different. and everything that i liked in LA is available here.

and in our family we try to live by "if the food is good, the price isn't important"

man, that is some uppity shit from the west coast...i bet we got better steaks here!

Chances are you were in the tourist areas in Los Angeles. Plus, notice I didn't mention L.A.

That's a good motto to eat by. The Taki place certainly won't break the bank, but I was rather surprised to see most nigiri in the $5+ range.

oh yeah, LA is totally not on the west coast. and we went with some locals - it wasn't in a tourist spot at all. it was walking distance from her house... and as you probably know, most kids can't afford houses in the touristy spots of LA. and even if it was a touristy spot, do they drop all the crappy/old sushi off at those restaurants? sushi grade fish is high quality stuff and is shipped with that in mind - location plays a minimal part in the taste/freshness of it.

and obviously it's going to be more expensive to have it shipped 3 times a week to a landlocked state in the middle of the country... but actually there are only like 3 kinds of nigiri at taki that are above $5. most is in the $3-$4 range.

man, you are making me hungry. stoppit! <3 sushi.
